SYNOPSIS
Dear Woman of My Dreams is based on my mother’s and great grandmother’s diaries from 1923. During that year, they took a 2-month train trip around the county visiting relatives and seeing sites. As I prepared to write this book, I retraced their travel by taking trains, and where necessary bus and car, to the places they visited, even staying in one of the same hotels. I lived with my mother in the last years of her life, including when she turned 100. Based on conversations with her, I wrote the last chapter of the book as if it were she, writing back to the young woman she was in 1923.
